High-Pressure Steam Heating Plant Replacement
The Norton Company is a manufacturer of coated abrasive products in Watervliet, NY. The industrial type complex totals more than 2,000,000 GSF of manufacturing and storage space, set out in 15 different buildings. The Norton Company was looking at different heating options for both process manufacturing heat and dedicated building heating.

Kallen & Lemelson was retained to prepare a study with recommendations for several different heating scenarios; the basic premise being to generate high temperature hot water (HTHW) for both process and building heating purposes. The outcome of our study was to build a new 50 MMBTUH HTHW plant on premises, using two (2) 25 MMBTUH packaged Lamont style heating boilers.

Subsequent to completing the study, Kallen & Lemelson prepared drawings and specifications for construction of a new high-pressure steam boiler plant. Construction costs were estimated at $2,600,000 and the Norton Company pre-purchased the boilers for early completion of the new plant.
